Sept Council Meeting – Regional Income Tax Agency (RITA)

Wanted to share some information on an item from the City Council meeting tonight that brought a fair amount of public comment:

This evening, City Council voted to permit City Admin to enter into an agreement with RITA Tax.

If finalized, after a transition period (which could be as soon as Jan. 1) taxpayers will be able to utilize online filing and payment tracking as well as a call center with 24/7 automated self-service to file local taxes.

Our City tax department will continue to be available (with walk-in hours and all the services you are used to) but now you will have more self service options by partnering with this regional agency (who currently serves more than 400 municipalities in Ohio.)

There were concerns raised if this was a step towards a State takeover of local taxing (it is not), if staff was going to laid off or outsourced (they are not), and if we know all the costs (we do). This is simply a way to provide more service to residents, get access to more feature rich software, and extend resident services.

The City retains all it’s legislative authority over the current tax ordinances and tax review board. More information will be coming from the City over the next few months as it progresses but if you have any questions in the meanwhile feel free to reach out.

Anyone looking for more frequent updates and if you are on Facebook I encourage you to join the Springdale Community Group.  Feel free to tag me in any questions over there too, I try to keep up with it as much as possible.
