May, June Council Meetings – Electric Aggregation and EV Chargers

Anyone looking for more frequent updates and if you are on Facebook I encourage you to join the Springdale Community Group.  Feel free to tag me in any questions over there too, I try to keep up with it as much as possible.

As for recent meetings, there are two items I wanted to highlight:

  • Electric Aggregation
  • Municipal EV Chargers

Community Electric Aggregation

The current City’s electric aggregation program agreement with Dynegy is scheduled to expire with the August 2025 meter reading dates and there are big increases expected from Duke for any one not in a third party supplier agreement.   The City has once again partnered with Energy Alliances (who provides this consulting to many neighboring communities including Forest Park, Fairfield, and Springfield Township) to gather proposals from certified suppliers for a possible renewed contract.

Dan Deters of Energy Alliances presented at the May 21st meeting and provided an update on current energy market conditions and the rate proposals received so far.  Dan is very knowledgeable in this space and is available to answer any questions – even working directly with any resident.  They have even helped residents that have been ‘slammed’ into a shady third party arrangement by unethical door to door types.

Past participants and anyone not already in a third party (or opt out arrangements) should have received the following letter with details at the end of June:

Full Letter here –> 2025 Dynegy Opt Out Notices – Electric Aggregation

I have written and spoken to many neighbors about this program, the last agreement was 2 years back and have spent a lot of time digging into these programs so if you have any questions please let me know.

Municipal EV Chargers

Last year the City worked with an energy efficiency consultant to submit a grant application to fund the installation of electric vehicle charging components at City properties around town. The project was approved through OKI – something I was able to work directly with OKI to pass – for $480,325 in federal Carbon Reduction Funds and Toll Revenue Credits.

Eight level 2 chargers are proposed:

  • 2 at the Municipal Building
  • 4 at the parking lot shared with Springdale Elementary
  • 2 at the Community Center

One additional ‘fast charger’ is proposed for the Community Center.

The grant will also cover five years of software and maintenance!

(Not the actual models / rendering, that is all still tbd)
