At last nights City Council meeting we approved an update under our Community Utilities Aggregation plan to enter a new agreement with AEP for gas supply. Our current plan ends with the October 2025 bill and the new one will be another 12 months.
Over the past year – residents saved just over 3% on gas services – just by being a resident and doing nothing… and Duke is already in process of changing how they calculate their rates for the Spring.
More will be coming soon but wanted to share this along with a few tips to keep front of mind:
- No one from the City will come to your house as part of this program (or ask to see your bill or call you). These tend to be third parties that are not always on the up and up
- Like the electrical program this is an ‘opt-out’ so most will not have to do anything to join, but it is voluntary (sincere apologies to folks who are inconvenienced by this, there are strict rules around how these programs are setup, I know it doesn’t work for everyone but for the vast majority it really can help make ends meet as we move out of AC season to heating…)
- If you are in your own agreement that will not be affected. If you are in Duke’s general / default floating rate plan and do not want to be included you will need to follow the instructions to ‘opt-out’ again. Note: The PUCO electric on going ‘do not aggregate list’ does not apply to gas aggregation – https://puco.ohio.gov/utilities/electricity/resources/electric-do-not-aggregate-list
- You will get physical mailings from the City and our contractor with details. If you are not sure if it is legit and from the City please please call and verify
- You can leave the program anytime after the start with no early termination fees
- The expected rate is around $0.6499 / ccf
- Any questions, ask!
